This is our favorite sport.
Supercar Drag Race is exciting, but they are boring when compared to Big Rig Challenge drag racing. Although tractor-trailers are a problem for your highway commute, they can actually be much faster than you might think.
This video shows modified trucks that can twist their frames. How can you turn a semi-truck from a truck into a race car? It all starts with amazing raw material.
Today’s video shows the star: A heavily modified Peterbilt359. Owner-operators love this icon of trucking. It was the first long-haul trucking in 1967. The Peterbilt 359 was a legendary truck thanks to its extensive options and clever use of material. Aluminum was used for the frame of the 359, but owners could also choose an aluminum cab or sleeper area to help keep weight down.
A large engine bay meant that owners could choose any engine or transmission from the 359. The Caterpillar 3408 engine was one of the most popular. This powerful V8 can generate around 450 horsepower, depending on the specification. It is 18.0 liters in displacement.
The massive Caterpillar 3408 engine consumes 46.2-liters oil and 54.9-liters coolant. It can also be upgraded to increase its power output, if you want to drag race it.
Although the truck in Big Rig Challenge’s racing series is not stock, it used the Peterbilt 359 as its base. It can be seen racing other 359s in the video but seems to have a huge power advantage.
Chances are people will be racing each other if the engine is on it. Semi-trucks, as you will see, are very exciting drag racing platforms.
