There are two modes to the safety light cluster. The lights that are orange indicate that overtaking is forbidden. If the lights turn green, it means that racing drivers can pass the safety car. Mercedes says that the LED modules can be dimmed and the intensity of light can be adjusted to suit the conditions. The rear number plate can be illuminated in the same color as the LED modules.

The new F1 safety car is a factory Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series with the optional Track Package. The roll cage is made of titanium and was designed to enhance the vehicle’s performance as well as its passive safety.

The safety car crew can monitor the track and race from the two tablets located on the dashboard. The international TV signal is displayed on the left screen. The animated representation of lap times and current race position can be switched to the right screen.

The twin-turbo V8 engine that powers the AMG GT Black Series has 730 horsepower (537kilowatts). It is coupled to a seven speed dual-clutch transmission. In just 3.2 seconds, the performance vehicle can accelerate from standstill to 60 mph (0-100 km/h) The maximum speed is 202 mph (325 km/h).
