Toyota is still trying to resolve the problem.
Toyota has recalled 744,000 examples in the United States of the 2011-16 Toyota Sienna because the sliding door might have opened inadvertently when the minivan was on the road.
According to the automaker, it is possible that the motor circuit could overload if the power sliding doors are blocked from opening. The slider could open while the minivan moves if the door is not locked. This could lead to injury for those who are inside.
Toyota is still trying to find a solution. In mid-January, the company will send owners a notice by mail. According to Automotive News, the company will not discuss information regarding injuries or accidents.
Toyota introduced the new generation Sienna in 2011, the model year. The minivan was slightly redesigned by the company for 2015, with minor changes to the grilles and front fascia. New digital displays and better materials were used in the interior.
Through October 2016, the company sold 107,369 Sienna units in the U.S. – a decrease of 6.7 percent over the same period last. Toyota delivered 137,497 minivans in 2015
In June, the Sienna was part recalled for 7,749 units of 14 models. The seat heater could have been short circuited. A fire could have occurred if the problem was discovered.
This repair campaign, which is second in the U.S. after the ongoing Takata airbag recalls of Toyota vehicles around the world, is the largest Toyota has undertaken so far in 2016. The company announced repairs to more than one million Rav4 and Rav4 EV seats because the frame of the seat cushion was able cut the lap belt during an accident. Dealers used resin covers to cover the frames, which dulled the edge of the lap belt.
