2021 Acura Type S Power Figures Confirmed and They're Decent

Acura’s sports sedan has received solid numbers.

According to the automaker, the 2021 Acura Type S turbocharged 355 horsepower (265 Kilowatts) will produce 354 pound-feet (354 Newton-meters) of torque. The engine will be available in a 10-speed auto transmission or the fourth generation of Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. The new performance sedan will be available for purchase in spring 2021.

Although you will have to wait several months before the 2021 Acura Type S TLX Type S is available in showrooms, 2020 Pikes peak International Hill Climb attendees will be able to witness the four-door speedster perform pace car duties at this prestigious event. Acura states that this prototype is still in development. Acura also offers the vehicle optional lightweight Y-spoke wheels and a roll cage.

The Acura 2021 TLX rides on the new platform. The sedan has a double-wishbone front suspension instead of the MacPherson strut system. This should improve handling.

The Type S is identified by the black trim pieces surrounding the grille, front spoiler, rear spoiler and diffuser. These bits can also be ordered with a carbon-fiber finish as an option. The interior features a flat-bottom steering column and aluminum accents.

Acura will also be bringing two race-prepped 2021 TLX models to the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The sedan’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine will power one of the two. It will be equipped with a turbo and intercooler that will increase the output by a further 272 HP (203 kW) or 280 lbft (380 Nm) respectively. The Type S’ four-piston Brembo front brakes will also be used. The suspension will be adjusted by the team and fitted with a set 19-inch HRE wheels.

Pikes Peak’s other TLX has slightly different modifications. A tuned version of the turbocharged four cylinder is available, as well as suspension tweaks and high-performance brake pads. The 18-inch HRE wheels are also available.

Dealers will soon be able to purchase the standard version of 2021 TLX this fall. Acura has not yet revealed the price.
