2020 Mercedes SL-Class Grand Edition Gets Posh Upgrades

These changes are very small and will not be visible until next year.

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is a classic model that has been in existence since 2013. With a new model due to arrive in 2021, Stuttgart will give its posh GT car a big sendoff. This is the 2020 SL Grand Edition. Mercedes considers this a “special” model. It is available on the SL 450 or 550 as primarily a look package. However, all Grand Edition Mercs will be riding on a sports suspension option which firms up the car and lowers it a little.

Grand Edition models get 10-spoke AMG forged wheels measuring 19 inches in front and 20 inches back. These wheels are finished in high-gloss black and have polished faces. This helps to make sure that everyone notices that something is different about the car. Graphite grey is the only exterior color available in the U.S. and it’s complemented with chrome and matte-silver trim on the front fascia to create a unique look. The fenders have subtle SL Grand Edition badges that set this car apart from other cars.

There’s also a little more bling inside. The seats are made of Tundra Brown Pearl leather, which features diamond quilting and SL Grand Edition branding on the headrests. You can find the same shade of leather on the steering wheel. However, the grip areas are made from perforated Nappa leather.

The SL-Class has long production runs. This is not unusual. The R230 was around for nine years, while the R129 lasted 12 years. Mercedes gave the current SL a facelift a few years back, and with a new model on the horizon, Mercedes is giving the SL – along with the SLC – some extra pomp to end the R231’s legacy.

Mercedes does not say how many Grand Edition models they will build or how much. We do know that the two-seater special edition will not be available in dealerships until next year.
