Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing Still Looks Amazing Despite Being a Decade Old

This vehicle will be used for the Mille Miglia Classic Rally.

Shmee150 is back with a new video highlighting the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. It’s not just any 300 SL Gullwing. This is the vehicle Shmee will drive during next month’s Mille Miglia rally. It will take him approximately 1,000 miles (1.600 km) from Brescia, Italy to Rome. He’ll be driving it on beautiful mountain roads and highways.

The 300 SL Gullwing, one of the most famous cars Mercedes has ever built. It was built between 1954 and 1957. It features a 3.0-liter inline six engine with Bosch’s mechanical direct fuel injection. The motor produces 215 horsepower (158kW) and can be mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. It can accelerate the car up to 160 mph (260 km/h).

Shmee’s car will be driven by a 1955-built 300SL Gullwing. It is more than twice the age of the video blogger. It has been to 30 Mille Miglia rallies and now it is owned by the Mercedes-Benz Museum, which is part of the Mercedes-Benz Classics division.

Shmee first meets the car and then takes it for a ride in this video. It is quite interesting to see how primitive and noisy it is. However, it is very easy to drive. Although the steering wheel is large, it’s not difficult to use. It’s also very comfortable. It drives “very normally,” much like a modern car. The 300SL Gullwing is approximately EUR1.75million, or $2.1 million at current exchange rates.
