Unfortunately, it won’t be going on patrol or chasing speeders.

The newest addition to the Miami Police Department’s fleet of vehicles is a custom Polaris Slingshot with a hardtop and flashing lights. The MPD will not be using the trike to chase speeders, but it will be used for community outreach.

“This will be an icebreaker. “This is going to be an icebreaker for us. Kids will want to come up to it and see it. They’ll also want to sit in it. Talk to the cops,” Miami’s chief of police said at the unveiling. (Watch it below).

Polaris donated the Slingshot, while Whelen Engineering provided the lights and siren. A set of Avorza wheels is also included. The trike is stunning in its law enforcement livery. It should grab attention from anyone who comes across it. This high-performance rig could also be used to chase speeders. This video shows the equipment.

Polaris has released more well-equipped versions since the Slingshots’ original launch in 2008. The top-of-the-line Grand Touring trim for 2019 is now available for $29,500. This is nearly double the base model’s price of $20,000. The GT keeps the 2.4-liter four cylinder that produces 173 horsepower (129kilowatts) as well as 166 pound-feet (252 Newton-meters), of torque. The new grade features a seven inch infotainment screen with navigation, a new wind deflector and a color-matched rear bumper. The hardtop provides some protection from the elements, although the partial windshield and absence of doors could cause occupants to become quite wet in adverse weather conditions. This machine should thrive in the generally sunny climate of Miami.
