Cadillac’s new advertising campaign features its crossovers and the tagline, “Rise Above.” The four ads were probably seen at the Academy Awards on Sunday February 24, 2019.
“In our new brand campaign, “Rise”, we have decided that the Cadillac name and our Crest should speak for themselves, and that they continue to tell the story about our reinvention. It all starts with our growing SUV collection,” said Cadillac Chief Marketing Officer Deborah Wahl to Adage, according to Automotive News.
The Rise Above ad is the longest. This spot features people persevering in creative pursuits and physical pursuits, intercutting short images of Caddy’s SUVs. Because the commercial fits the Oscars’ theme of personal accomplishment, it makes sense that the message be aired during the Oscars. The ad might not work as well if it airs during regular programming.
The Take to the Stage 30-second spot focuses on a performer getting ready for the stage. In an attempt to link the elements, the ad’s editing combines images of the man’s purple suit with images of the Cadillac’s sleek lines.
It takes 30 seconds to open the ad Take flight. The ad opens with a woman driving a XT5 through desert terrain, when suddenly a fighter jet appears to make a low-flying pass. Although the loud plane is distracting the driver, the Caddy’s driver assistant tech takes control of the vehicle and stops it from striking a stationary trailer. Suddenly, a female pilot emerges from the desert and climbs into the XT5. The SUV’s driver is also wearing a flight suit.
The last ad, Make Your Escape is the lightest. When a call arrives, a woman drives an XT4 along a twisty road. The woman acts as if the connection is breaking down, but the person on both ends knows that all is well. Finally, the driver’s coworker gives in and allows the woman to enjoy her drive.
