In just a few short weeks, it will be officially unveiled.
The all-new Skoda Fabia will soon be the Volkswagen Group’s new supermini. The Czech hatchback will join the updated Volkswagen Polo as well as the Ibiza. It will be switching to the MQB–A0 platform which promises many technological and packaging improvements. Our Kolesa.ru friends have created two renderings that are unofficially previewing the final design based on the first official teaser photos.
The new Fabia, as a Skoda product will be bigger than its predecessor. The hatch, which measures 4,107 millimeters in length, will only be a few millimeters shorter than the Volkswagen Golf 4 (which is a class above Fabia). These renderings show a mature design, along with an increased size and a trunk that is 50 liters bigger than the previous. The total volume of the car will be 380 liters.
The new Fabia will look a little more luxurious, and it will have a significantly lower drag coefficient, from 0.32 to 0.28. This will benefit the car’s aerodynamics, and therefore its efficiency. The most important piece of information is Skoda’s new flagship four-cylinder engine. The 1.5-liter turbocharged TSI engine will produce 150 horsepower (112 kilowatts), and 184 poundfeet (250 Newton meters) of torque. It will only be available with the DSG automatic transmission. Fabia wagons are also on the horizon with a market launch planned for 2023.
Base models will come with a 1.0-liter MPI naturally-aspirated three-cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-liter TSI engine, which offers more power and an option DSG gearbox in one of the two more powerful configurations, will be offered above. Following the discontinuation of the TDI engine in the facelifted model, the Fabia will no longer be offered with a diesel engine.
