Drag Strip: Watch Dodge Demon Fight Chevy Cheekelle

The King of Drag Strips is a legend in street racing.

Before the high-revving supercars today, there was a gas-guzzling car that ruled the streets of America in the ’60s & ’70s: muscle vehicles. These cars were equipped with powerful, high-displacement engines and a huge body. They also had pure, octane filled power. These cars dominated the local automotive scene until the gas crisis of the late 1970s.

The Chevrolet Chevelle is one such car, especially in its SS trim. This mid-sized coupe, which was the spiritual successor to the Malibu’s, was a street icon. Now it faces another legend – The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Demon.

It’s a battle between pure American muscle, which is decades apart. Which one do you think is quicker on the drag strip. Let’s see the numbers.

The Dodge Demon is, as you probably know, the most difficult rival in straight-line racing. It’s even made to drag out a drag track, making it utterly impossible to beat. Unless you’re a McLaren 720S, that’s a completely different story. The Demon’s V8 engine is a 6.2-liter and has a supercharger of 2.7-liters. It produces 840 horsepower, when it consumes 100 octane gasoline. The torque is 770 lb-ft.

This is not a great performance compared to the Demon. You might even say that the race is over before it began… which you are right.
