You have been warned.
You might be interested in a more expensive Cayenne, with less headroom and smaller cargo space. Porsche is working on it. There have been rumors of a “coupe version” for some time. Autocar learned from Oliver Blume, the Zuffenhausen man in charge of the plans for a Cayenne Coupe to launch in the market in 2019.
The fancier Cayenne with a more inclined roofline and a higher price tag will be built alongside the regular Cayenne. Although the overall styling of the donor car will be identical, there will be a new front bumper to make it stand out. The majority of the changes will be aft of the B-pillars. However, aside from a redesigned roof, the SUV will sportier with Panamera influence and sleeker taillights.
A diesel engine is not being considered, surprise! The Cayenne Coupe, or whatever it is called, will rely on V6 and V8 gasoline engines. We are not yet aware of the hybrid powertrain that was recently launched for the regular model. However, we don’t expect it to be available any time soon.
At least in the U.K., Porsche’s competition for the BMW X6, Mercedes GLE Coupe and the recently introduced AudiQ8 are set to go on sale during the fourth quarter 2019. This could mean that the coupe-SUV hybrid could be available in Germany sooner than expected. Although we haven’t yet seen spy shots of this model, it is likely that we will soon.
Last note: In August 2016, there was a false Alarm when our spies captured a Panamera standing on stilts. This led nearly everyone (including us!) to believe it was the rumored Cayenne coupe. It turned out to be a test mule for Porsche’s forthcoming electric assault, the Mission E.
