Raging Bulls Collide: Lambo Aventador SVJ Drag Races Huracan

Sometimes, there is more to a race that horsepower.

The Lamborghini Huracan LPP 610-4 debut dates back to 2014. This is a long time ago in supercar racing, but new footage shows it still delivers plenty of performance. Brooks, Drag Times races the stock Huracan against the Aventador SPJ. The result is much closer than you would think.

The Aventador SVJ is powered by a 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 that produces 746 horsepower (556 kilowatts), and 531 pound feet (720 Newton-meters), of torque. The dry weight is kept to 3,362 lb (1,525 kg).

The Huracan LP 610-4, on the other hand, has a naturally aspirated 5.2 liter V10 producing 602 hp (449 kW), and 413 lbft (560 nm). It weighs in at 3,135 lbs (1,422 kilogram).

The Aventador SVJ’s distinct power advantage and slight weight drawback make it seem like it should be able to outrun the Huracan at the drag strip. But that isn’t the case. Brooks uses Vbox Telemetry graphs to show why.

The transmissions are the greatest equalizer in this race, it turns out. The Aventador SVJ has a seven speed Independent Shifting Road (ISR), which is a single-clutch, automated unit. The Huracan, on the other hand, has a seven speed dual-clutch transmission.

The graphs show that the dual-clutch setup accelerates well and doesn’t lose any speed between shifts. The Aventador’s single clutch transmission, however, has large jolts in the g-forces during gear change and a slower acceleration.

Brooks points out that the Huracan would be driven away by the Aventador beyond a quarter mile. The two cars are closely matched at this distance. You can see which car wins in the video.
