Do you want a more luxurious VW Atlas? The Q6 is for you.
Since the spy photos were first released last year, we had doubts that Audi would name this SUV “Q9”. Our suspicions were correct as we are now looking at the first ever Q6. This gasoline-powered SUV, not to be confused with the Q6 Etron fully-electric model, will only be made in China for the local market. What is it? It is essentially a Volkswagen Atlas (Teramont, in some countries) dressed in a tuxedo.
Although the official unveiling is set for later in the year, Audi has already registered the Q6 with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The three-row monster is created through a local joint venture with SAIC. It measures 5,099 mm (200.7 in) in length, 2,014mm (79.2in) wide, 1,784mm (70.2 in), and 1,784mm (70.2 in). The VW model is actually slightly longer and wider, but it shares the same 2,980mm (117.3in) wheelbase.
This is not the largest vehicle that can be ridden on the MQB platform. The VW Tallagon is the winner of this title. It measures a magnificent 5,152mm (202.8in) and has the same wheelbase to the Atlas/Teramont/Q6. The Talagon’s V6 engine is available in the Audi model for China, but the two turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engines are available in the Audi model for China.
The model with the “40 TFSI” rating is 228 horsepower (170kilowatts), while the “45 TFSI”, which has 262 horsepower (195 kW), is more powerful. The Q6 is a heavy SUV from Audi, weighing in at 2,205 kg (4,861 lbs). The three-row luxury SUV with three rows will travel 129 mph (207 km/h) according to MIIT documentation.
The Q6 will be sold in China by Audi with a variety of alloy wheels in sizes from 17 to 21, along with different patterns for its front grille. Even the greenhouse has been modified in order to fit a different quarter-glass. This design hides the VW Atlas origins. Although it isn’t the most beautiful car for carrying the Four Rings, it’s difficult to make such large vehicles look good while keeping the MQB underpinnings in check.
The official announcement could be made at the Auto China 2022 exhibition in Beijing next month.
