It is currently conducting final testing.
Abarth, one of Stellantis’ niche businesses, will continue to make go-fast versions for existing Fiat products. unveiled last summer the Abarth F595, a hot hatch that is based on the Fiat 500 and powered by a combustion engine. A new report claims that the brand’s first all electric model will launch next year. It will be a stronger and more sporty version of the zero-emissions Fiat 500e.
Autocar published a new article that details Abarth’s first attempt to create an electric vehicle hatch. The publication also claims that the official details of the vehicle will be available shortly before its official launch. The car is expected to reach speeds of 100 mph (160 km/h) and accelerate at 0-62 miles an hour (0-100 km/h). These are significant improvements on the stock 500e’s 9.0 seconds (0-100 km/h) acceleration time and 93 mph (135 kph), top speed.
Olivier Francois, Abarth’s boss, confirmed that the electric hot hatch was already in development and that final testing are ongoing. He said that the Abarth community plays a key role in the development and that “social media” is an ideal tool for that. We expect to see the final production version the Abarth 500e by the end of the year or early next.
“Abarth was the first version of the electric 500 that I made a year ago. Electric cars are already so much fun to drive. We are working hard on it and it should be confirmed soon. It’s harder than I expected. It’s not the same electric motortrain if you want to make a true Abarth.
Francois hinted that there was more to the retuned electric engine. Francois also suggested that creating an electric hatch will require adapting the suspension and brakes for the new, more powerful EV system. This suggests hardware upgrades to the Fiat 500’s standard zero-emissions Fiat 500. The idea is to ” heat people up, not the planet.”
