The horse did fine, thankfully.
It’s not illegal in Texas to drive your pickup truck with a horse in the bed. As if that wasn’t enough, this older Chevrolet Silverado driver was reported to have been running at 70 mph (113 km/h), down the highway. KTRK ABC 13 News Houston has the video above and the complete story about this horseplay. It was reported last week in Corrigan (Texas).
The horse is doing fine, and the commentary in this video shows that the animal seemed to be enjoying the ride. According to reports, the truck driver worked in nearby stockyards and needed to transport the horse. According to the person, he claimed to have a proper horse trailer. However, the truck he used to pull it wouldn’t start so he used a dented Chevy with no tailgate and a busted taillight to keep the horse in his bed.
Police pulled over the truck for obvious reasons, but the driver and his large passenger were allowed to go on because they believed there was nothing illegal. Texas law states that it is illegal for anyone under 18 to ride on the truck’s bed. Texas law also makes it illegal to transport any loose material without a barrier. Although material can be defined as any gravel, trash or other items that could blow off the bed, let’s not forget common sense. Do you prefer dirt to hit your windshield, or a horse?
Horse-lovers in Houston saw the video and were shocked at the actions of the person. Some suggested that the horse be removed from its owner. Let’s just say that you don’t have to do it.
