Ferrari 599 Meets BMW X5, AMG GT, And More at Drag Strip

The veteran versus several young guns.

Many claim that the Ferrari 599 is one of the most beautiful cars ever to come out of Modena over the past 20 years. The 599 was a major improvement over the 575M in terms of design and performance. The 599 was also released in one of the most exciting eras for Ferrari. It launched the Enzo and F430 quickly followed by the 599.

It was impressive, but how does it compare to modern performance cars? This question was answered by the recent Petrolhead Spring Event in The Netherlands. It’s the 599-year-old veteran who is most against cars that are half its age.

Before we tell you what it was, let’s look at the 599’s statistics. The drag event used the HGTE (Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione) car. The engine is not affected by the handling package. The standard model still produces 612 horsepower (456 Kilowatts) as well as 448 pound-feet (608 Newton meters) of torque.

Ferrari claims that the 6.0-liter V12 can push the 599 to 62mph (100 km/h), from rest, in 3.7 seconds. It can also sprint at 0 to 124 MPH (0 to 200 Km/h) in 11.1 seconds. The top speed is 205 MPH (330 Km/h).

The first car the 599 encountered was a Hamann-tuned BMW X5M. The BMW’s all-wheel drive system allowed it to make a quick getaway but the Ferrari’s V12 was able to reel it in. The 599 was also up against the latest , an AMG GT and even one of its contemporaries – a Lamborghini GallardoSuperleggera.

The 599 will win some rounds and lose others. The races will show how far performance cars have come since 2007, which is as impressive as it was 15 years ago. We also see that the grand touring Ferrari is still able to compete with the younger cars. You will enjoy the clip and hear some amazing exhaust sounds that will make you happy.
