Alfa Romeo Giulietta renders Model's Future beyond 2022

We’re using our crystal ball and illustrating the next-generation Giulietta.

Sergio Marchionne was Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ head honcho. He revealed his final five-year plan for FCA. Alfa Romeo was the star of the show thanks to a promising 2018-2022 product roadmap. This includes the return of the GTV and 8C namesplates as well as revised versions of Giulia, Stelvio and other long-wheelbase derivatives. The plan also includes two new crossovers to enhance Alfa’s product line and capitalize on the ever-growing CUV boom.

What about the Giulietta, an aging Italian model? It’s not mentioned in the roadmap but Alfa Romeo will give it a nip by 2022 rather than making the transition to a new generation. This is a bit disappointing, considering that the hatchback has been around since approximately eight years. It’s also quite old, so it’s fair to say it’s getting a little tired, especially when compared with other newer segments.

The attached speculative rendering attempts to show the future of the Giulietta beyond 2022. This is our vision of the next-generation model, drawing inspiration from new Alfa products such as the Giulia or Stelvio. It would be logical for these models to steal the Giulietta’s mid-cycle refresh. But underneath, the Giulietta will continue with its same bones.

There is a silver lining: Alfa Romeo’s updated Giulietta model will likely include some long-awaited changes under the hood. The five-door hatch will feature two new gasoline engines, which will be unveiled tomorrow with the 2019 Jeep Renegade facelift. The smaller crossover will feature a three-cylinder unit with 120 horsepower and a larger four-cylinder unit with 1.3-liter. It will also have 150 hp, 180 hp, and 1.3-liter.

Alfa promises to provide a fully electrified range of vehicles by 2022. This means that the Giulietta will be equipped with a mild hybrid engine to reduce fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions.

The Giulietta will remain, but the MiTo will not. As the product roadmap indicates, the MiTo will be dropping the city car from the range.
