They are expected to arrive in 2024, according to reports.
Consumers still love trucks, so automakers offer expanded product lines. General Motors has added off-road trims on the Chevy Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500 with AT4. A new Muscle Trucks report indicates that GM will have more options for its 2024 lineup.
According to the publication, GM plans to expand its off-road-oriented pickups lineup by adding the Silverado HD ZR2 as well as the Sierra HD AT4X trims. These two models will be placed above the Silverado HD Z71 or Sierra HD AT4 and they will have enough kit to justify their presence. AT4X and ZR2 will be equipped with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MMT tires. These tires are two inches bigger than those on the AT71 and AT4.
GM is expected to offer the pair with either the 6.6-liter gasoline or diesel engines. Both engines are V8s. In the Silverado HD, the gas engine produces 401 horsepower (299 Kilowatts) as well as 464 pound-feet (621 Newton meters) of torque. Duramax diesel produces 445 horsepower (331 kW) as well as 910 lbft (1,233 Nm).
These two vehicles will receive a variety of upgrades to make them more versatile off-road. According to the report, parts include new bumpers that will improve clearance and skid plates. These parts will significantly increase the truck’s ground clearance, along with larger tires.
Both will get similar off-road upgrades but they will have their own distinctions. The report states that the suspension tuning will be different for each vehicle. The GMC is expected to have better standard equipment and materials. It will also be more expensive, as it’s similar to the Chevy/GMC price split.
The report says that the new trucks won’t be available until 2024, so we will have to wait a while before seeing them. The current-generation HD pickups will be refreshed at that time. Ford and Ram both have stepped into this market with their heavy-duty offroad pickups, including the Ford Super Duty Tremor (and the Ram HD Power Wagon). We’ll find out if there are any more.
