Porsche is testing prototypes from the snowy north to Nurburgring.
There is nothing better than seeing a future Porsche 911 model on public roads. A whole fleet was captured! A new batch of almost 40 911 photos shows how spy crews in Europe have been keeping up with Porsche. The facelifted 911 Carrera and 911 Cabriolet are shown from many angles. Each photo offers a glimpse into the future of the 992 series.
We begin in the cold north, where winter officially has become spring. The temperatures are rising and the 911 prototypes are covered in dirt, not snow. We can also see revisions to 911’s front bumper, with smaller vertical slats at the lower intakes. These prototypes also feature new daytime running lamps. They have large, round placeholder lights that are taped to their fascia. The fascia is hidden behind road grime, which acts as camouflage.
The new center-exit exhaust is hard to miss. There are rumors that Porsche will drop the turbocharged engine in the Carrera and opt for the naturally-aspirated flat six used in the 718 Cayman GTS. Although the exhaust is believed to be a sign of this, a recent report stated that Frank-Steffen Walliser, Porsche 911 boss, said no. Our spy sources claim that it is still happening, but anonymous tipters have confirmed this. Although it will be smaller than the Cayman mill, it will still be aspirated naturally. We’ll need to wait for a reveal to confirm if it is true or false.
The Nurburging will be open after the winter months, and Porsche is making good use of it. We’ve seen the prototype circling the track before and are pretty certain it’s the new 911 Hybrid. It’s not a rumor that an electrified 911 will be coming , but Porsche officials confirmed it. However, it won’t come as a plug-in model. The 911 Hybrid will have a small battery to power an electric motor. This is a borrowing from the 919 Hybrid racecar.
We should be able to answer these questions later in the year. For the model year 2023, debuts could take place in the second half 2022.
