First Jaguar XE mules 2013 spotted on the road

Jaguar XE, a compact two-seater sports car based upon the XK model, is coming soon. It will be competing against the Porsche 911.

These are the first spy photos of the 2013 Jaguar XE, the British marque’s new model for baby sports.

The prototype mule rides on a shortened body and chassis from the XK. The XE is available in coupe or cabriolet models, and we have seen it here.

We are not yet certain of the details, but the XE will be a two-seater and priced at a competitive price with the Porsche 911. It will have a mid-front engine mounting to improve performance handling, given its long Jag nose.

The XE will likely be equipped with a V6 engine in at minimum two configurations: one naturally-aspirated, and one supercharged. The output levels will be comparable to the 911 and Cayman models.
