Gunther Werks displays the Carbon Fiber 911 Body at Pebble Beach

A Porsche tuner shows off the first completed project for its Sport Touring package.

This year’s Monterey Car Week is seeing companies show their 993-generation Porsche 911 serious love. The Project Gold from Porsche Classic division is now on display. Gunther Werks’ carbon fiber replacement body will be used for the last air-cooled 911s. The tuner also displays the first complete example of its 993 Sport Touring model.

Peter Nam, Gunther Werks CEO, stated that had presented their project at The Quail last year. This led to a lot more questions about the carbon fiber components of the vehicle. To show the amount of carbon fiber in each Gunther Werks 911, we brought an exposed carbon exoskeleton from our production line. A complete customer vehicle was also included so that attendees who couldn’t make it to our booth last year could see the final product.

The carbon fiber 993 body of the firm is an art piece and serves as the foundation for its latest creations. Although it looks quite stocky at first, Gunther Werks’ designers have actually increased the width of the fenders by 3 inches at each corner. This allows you to fit wider tires and a more meaty rubber.

This is the company’s first tuned 993 with its Sport Touring package. It shows what carbon fiber can do with the added ducktail spoiler, modified intake plenum and modified body. The exterior is finished in a beautiful, low-gloss Chelsea Grey. The exterior has a light gray stripe running along each side, with red Porsche letters. Shiny black wheels are a great way to grab the attention.

The car’s 4.0-liter naturally aspirated, air-cooled flat six produces 400 horsepower (298 Kilowatts) and 335 pound-feet (447 Newton meters) of torque. JRZ offers a more responsive handling. Gunther Werks uses carbon ceramic Brembo brakes with front and rear rotors of 14.96 inches (380 millimeters). The 18-inch wheels are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa. They measure 13.19 inches (335mm) in the rear, and 11.61 inches (295mm) in the front.

Gunther Werks plans to only build 25 of these 993 conversions. Customers have the option to either provide their own donor cars or work with Gunther Werks in order to locate one.
