A startup company in Bulgaria is now on the market. It aims to bring new life to cars with mechanical defects that can’t be fixed or don’t have any engine.
Modern Classics is based in Sofia, but it claims it can deliver its products anywhere in Europe with a two year international warranty. The Porsche 911 G-series 911, which is the first 911 to offer turbocharging, is the basis of their pilot project. The original powertrain is gone and the car has a BMW-sourced fully electric drive system.
The rear wheels are driven by a single electric motor that produces 184 horsepower (137kilowatts). This number is likely to sound familiar as the BMW has the same maximum power. According to the company, a 42-kWh battery pack should provide enough electric energy for more than 155 miles (250 km) on a single charge.
It’s certainly not a lot of power, but it’s a good deal. It’s certainly more than the original 911 Carrera of the first half the 1970s and nearly as powerful as the Carrera 3.0 models. In electric 911, the sprint to 0-60 miles per hour (0-100 km/h) takes 6.8 seconds. The top speed electronically limited to 100 mph (170 kph).
There are two charging options. Both AC and DC charging have a maximum speed of 11 kilowatts. Rapid DC charging can charge up to 50 kW. The battery can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in 30 minutes.
This electric 911 retains its original design and form, but it hides many exciting secrets. The vehicle is equipped with the latest technologies such as ABS, ESP and a hill assist. A BMW-sourced infotainment program is available with familiar controls at the center console. However, the instrument cluster features analog displays that are identical to the original vehicle.
