Toyota designed the three-door Yaris body for the GR trim. Why couldn’t they do it for the GR Corolla as well?
Toyota has just unveiled the new rally-bred GR Corolla hatchback. It will only be available in America. This hot hatchback takes many components from the GR Yaris and is available in other parts of the world. Although the GR Corolla might have a similar engine to the GR Yaris it does not feature the Yaris’s three-door design. This sweet rendering from X-Tomi Design is the best we can offer for customers who want a three-door GR Corolla.
The latest Toyota GR Corolla hot hatch is now available for purchase in the US. The rally homologation GR Yaris was a hit with global customers who regularly drove their Toyota hatchbacks to the track. America is now able to take advantage of Toyota’s passion for making some of the most powerful hot hatchbacks available.
The GR Corolla’s size is not the only difference. The smaller GR Yaris has a three-door hatch, while a larger and more practical GR Corolla has a five-door hatch. While a five-door layout may be more practical, it is hard to ignore the beauty of this three door render.
American buyers will find the new GR Corolla with a turbocharged 300 horsepower (223 Kilowatts), 1.6-liter inline-3 engine. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This powerful G16E–GTS engine generates 100 horsepower (75 Kilowatts per cylinder) and makes use of clever engineering such as oil cooling jets, larger exhaust vas and a machined head. To ensure reliability, this power is produced. This driver-focused drivetrain can be paired with Toyota’s GR-4 performance all-wheel-drive system, which can split the torque distribution based upon the driving mode.
There are two options for the GR Corolla: the Core model, which is the standard model, and the Circuit trim that is performance-oriented. The second adds a carbon fiber roof, front and rear torsion limited slip differentials and a more aggressive front grille.
It doesn’t matter which trim GR Corolla model you choose, it will be one of most enjoyable hatchbacks to drive. We are excited to see Toyota build these hot hatchbacks, whether it’s three doors or five.
