This one is lower than the 1 Series and has larger brakes.
BMW 1 Series gets a refresh. These shots show the updated M135i thanks to its quad exhaust tips. Our spy reports that the brand may revive the M140i name on this model.
This 1Series is loaded by engineers in camouflage. The covering conceals what’s new well. While the brand may make minor adjustments to the front fascia when updating vehicles, it is not possible to see any changes. The new design’s headlights have a more round and less angular appearance.
There aren’t any major changes to the sides, as with most vehicle refreshes. The spoiler at the rear of the roof appears to be at a higher angle.
BMW’s design team used camouflage to disguise the vehicle. Most noticeable is the quad exhaust pipes, as opposed to the M135i’s single outlet at each corner.
We saw a more performance-oriented version of the 1 Series spy photos in the last batch we reviewed. This version had a higher ride height and smaller brakes than the previous one. These features lend credence to this variant being the replacement of the sporty M135i.
The interior of the 1 Series has not been photographed yet. The vehicle might get the latest iDrive 8 infotainment technology to keep it current.
Information about any future updates to the powertrain range isn’t yet available. Although it would not be for the M135i or M140i as BMW calls them, there is a possibility that the 1 Series may get a plug-in hybrid.
It is unknown when the refreshed 1 Series range will debut. It is not expected to be available until 2023 due to the changes to the M135i in 2022 model.
The M140i was replaced by a special edition for 2019. The rear wheels were driven by a turbocharged six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine.
