You might not have it with a manual gearbox.
Ali Jammoul from Ford, the vehicle program director for Icons and Ford Performance confirms to wheels that the next-generation Mustang will arrive in 2023. A V8 engine is still available, but electrification appears to be the future for the Blue Oval’s pony cars.
Jammoul stated that the next generation of products Jammoul is currently working on will launch next year in 2023 and that it was going to be great. The new Mustang is not yet available. Rumours claim that the new pony car will be available in the United States in the 2024 model-year. This would suggest that it might be on display in showrooms during the second half year.
Jammoul says that Ford is improving the engine’s emissions, even though the V8 is still around. Jammoul said that Ford is working to make the V8 less environmentally-friendly and to ensure it meets regulatory standards. He said that this is something he has done and will do in the next-generation Mustang.
This could be in line with rumors that the Mustang’s hybrid assist powertrain will have hybrid assist. According to reports, it will have a V8 driving its rear wheels and an electrical motor turning the front axle. This would make it the first pony car with all-wheel drive.
Jammoul isn’t sure if the Mustang will be offered with a manual transmission. Jammoul stated that while he cannot confirm whether the Mustang will have a manual gearbox, it is clear that electrification will increase and manual gearboxes won’t be around in the future.
Jammoul believes that an electric Mustang is possible. Jammoul stated, “Clearly the market is moving towards electrification. We’re committed to making more performance vehicles that can be EVs. Would it be called Mustang? He said that he thought so.
We get a peek at the next-gen Mustang through spy shots, but Ford is keeping the model covered in heavy camouflage while it develops. The pony car’s traditional silhouette of a long hood with a short rear deck is still evident. The grille appears large and the headlights are pointed. The convertible remains part of the lineup. In 2024 , a GT3 racing version will be available.
