This week, the New York Auto Show will unveil a new look.
The Chrysler portfolio is dated and sparse. Stellantis, the parent company, plans to make it better by 2028. The Chrysler Airflow Concept, which was unveiled earlier this year, is a preview for the company’s future electrification efforts. Although the car was ready for production at launch, Chrysler will unveil a new design for the concept at New York Auto Show in April 13.
Chrysler showed off the new front grille lighting element to tease the concept’s new styling. The new design is slightly different from the grille treatment in the original concept, but it looks a lot more abstract. The new lighting arrangement doesn’t show the outline of the winged Chrysler badge. Unfortunately, this is all the teaser shows, so it’s not clear what design changes Chrysler will make.
According to the company, this concept will give a glimpse at the future design direction of Chrysler’s brand’s all-electric future. In 2025, Chrysler will launch the first electric car. By 2028, it will become an EV-only brand. The Airflow Concept could be the next production model. The concept is based on Stellantis’ STLA platform for battery-electric cars , which will underpin a variety of makes, models and body styles for each of the conglomerate’s 12 brands.
Chrysler does not mention any changes to the powertrain in the concept. The concept will likely feature the same dual electric drive models as the crossover all-wheel drive. It will also have about 400 horsepower (294 Kilowatts) and a theoretical range between 350 to 400 miles (563 to 643 kilometers). STLA models will be at least 400-volt, with flagship configurations offering 800-volt.
Only Wednesday will reveal how the Airflow Concept is different from the one it was revealed at CES in January. Even though these vehicles present unique styling challenges, battery-electric vehicles offer designers greater freedom. The Chrysler Pacifica minivan is available, as well as the 300 sedan. Its lineup requires a lot of attention, and its efforts to be fully battery-electric could make it a bright future. The updated Airflow Concept will be unveiled by Chrysler at the 2022 New York Auto Show at 11:45 AM EDT.
