It reaches dealers in spring with an EPA-estimated range 252 miles.
The Toyota all-electric SUV was unveiled in November 2021. The bZ4X, a curious name, promises modest performance and range. It also features five-passenger seating and a wide array of technology. Toyota will share the pricing and it will go on sale in spring.
The 2023 HTML4X starts from $42,000, but that does not include the mandatory $1,215 delivery and destination charge. The out-the-door cost is $43,215 and you get the XLE trim level that turns only the front wheels. The bZ4X Limited, which has all-wheel drive, is the flagship of the line. This will cost you $49,995, which is less than $50,000. This is before you add any options.
Toyota offers the bZ4X only in XLE or Limited trim levels for 2023. Here’s a quick price breakdown.

The bZ4X was co-developed with Subaru and uses Toyota’s eTNGA platform, which is specifically designed for electric vehicles. The front-wheel-drive model uses a single motor with 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts). It also has the longest EPA-estimated range at 252 miles. The range of the XLE drops to 228 miles if you add the second motor for all wheel drive. The power goes up slightly, but only to 214 horsepower (160 kW).
It is worth noting that Toyota’s AWD model’s horsepower rating has dropped one pony since the bZ4X was announced last. Straight-line performance is comparable with the bZ4X lineup due to similar power levels. Toyota claims that the AWD bZ4X can reach 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds, compared to 7.1 seconds for FWD. Although it isn’t going to light the world on fire, it is more than enough to do the job.
What will buyers think of the “adequate”, growing segment of crossover EVs? Although the Hyundai Infinitiq 5 costs slightly more in SE trim, it offers slightly more power, greater range and faster charging speeds. Although the Ford Mustang E is slightly more expensive, it has significantly more power and a faster charging speed. It also offers a similar range estimate to the base RWD model.
