Honda is also working on new CR-V hybrids and Accords.
The lineup of Honda will be a little different next year. The company today announced that the Insight will be discontinued later in the year. The automaker will focus its efforts on core hybrid models, which will include new CR-V hybrids and Accord hybrids. Honda will also launch a new Civic Hybrid in the US to replace the Insight.
Insight production is set to end in June. Honda hasn’t yet said when the Civic successor will arrive. However, Honda did say that it would make its debut in the near future. We won’t be waiting long to see Honda’s other hybrids. The CRV Hybrid will be available by Honda sometime in the year. The Accord Hybrid is expected to follow. Honda claims hybrids will make up 50 percent of each model’s sales mix.
Honda introduced the Civic in Europe last month. It was the 11th generation model. Although it is not clear how the US Civic Hybrid will compare to its European counterpart, it may give an indication of what to expect. The Civic features a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle engine with two electric motors. This combination produces 181 horsepower (135 Kilowatts) 232 pound-feet (315 Newton meters) of torque. It will be available in Europe this fall.
After a five year hiatus, Honda has introduced the 2019 Insight. The Insight’s 1.5-liter engine was paired with two electric motors that produce 151 horsepower (112 kW) & 191 lbft (258 Nm). The new model was based on Honda’s previous-generation Civic, but it is positioned higher than the popular compact car. Since 2018, Honda has sold more third-generation Insight hybrids than any other manufacturer.
Honda Insight is a model that has been around for 23 years. It may not be in the same place forever. The redesigned model will be introduced to the CR-V Hybrid, which will launch later in the year. The 2018 Honda Accord was introduced. It will likely receive a mid-cycle update that updates both the whole lineup and the hybrid version. As Honda prepares for a reorientation of its focus on hybrid models within its core product line, we’ll be keeping an eye out.
