A 8-inch suspension lift and 30-inch off-road tires with attitude to spare
Imagine yourself behind the wheel your Lamborghini Aventador and driving into the loca l Cars & Coffee event. For the first ten minutes you’ll be the focus of attention. This lifted 2012 Smart Fortwo park next to you and your Lambo is no longer .
This could be an example scenario with the wild Smart Two. It was a tall, chunky vehicle with plenty of off-road accessories and tires. These are 15-inch steelies on 30-inch tires. To make them fit, the Baja-themed Smart receives an eight-inch suspension lift. Front fenders are also cut. However, instead of making fuss with cutouts at back, the wheels can be pushed out and covered in all-new plastic.
This is not a novelty machine. It also has spacers in its springs. It has adjustable coilovers and custom-tailored arms, which give it some extra moxie when you go off the beaten track. The exterior is covered in a white exoskeleton and skid plates. It even has a winch that weighs in at 4,000 pounds, which may seem excessive for such a small machine. However, the whole thing is way too much.
Maybe not all. We climb inside to see an empty interior, save for an 8-inch touchscreen stereo system. The engine’s three-cylinder configuration is completely stock. It produces 70 horsepower (52 kilowatts) and drives the rear wheels via the five-speed manual transmission. Although the top speed is claimed to be 65 mph, we don’t know if this is due to power limitations or the fear of driving along in a lifted vehicle that’s also extremely narrow and short.
You may feel a strange rush of Deja vu when you drive this Fortwo. It was built by Gotham Garage, and featured on the Netflix series Car Masters. Rust to Riches. While it isn’t as fast or as off-road-ready Mercedes-Benz Benz G-Class, it will certainly make you happy. This car is a top-rated ride in terms of attention-getting.
