Retractable hardtops can be moved up and down in 14 seconds.
June 2021 saw the debut of the Ferrari-badged V6 supercar. Now we are getting to know its practical sibling. There are no additional cargo areas within the two-seat cabin. However, you can lower the roof for more headroom. Yes, the Gran Turismo Spider 296 (GTS) can soak up more sun than the 296 GTB.
It gets a retractable hardtop (RHT) in typical Ferrari fashion. This helps to keep the coupe’s look when it’s down. While the vehicle is moving at speeds up to 30 mph (45 km/h), the folding roof takes 14 seconds to raise or lower. To lower the roof, press the button. The roof will split in two sections and fold flush to the engine bay.
You can still see the 3.0-liter V6 generating 663 horsepower by looking through the rear window. The Ferrari 296 GTS, which is combined with the electric motor produces an incredible 830 horsepower (610 kW) as well as 740 Nm (546 Lb-ft) in torque. This plug-in hybrid can go from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h), in just 2.9 seconds, to 124 mph (220 km/h), in just 7.6 seconds. Maranello claims that their electrified convertible can travel more than 205 mph (335 km/h). The top speed drops to just 84 mph (135 km/h) when you switch to electric power.
Convertibles are more popular than coupes, so one-percent will be concerned about their weight. A folding roof, especially one with a hardtop, adds complexity to the vehicle’s structure. If the 296 GTS is fitted with the optional Assetto Fiorano package, its dry weight will be 1,540 kg (3,395 lb). It makes the Italian Spider 70kg (154 lbs heavier) than its coupe sibling.
The new 296 GTS, which is similar to the coupe with a fixed roof, has an all-electric driving distance of 15.5 miles (25 km) thanks to a 7.45-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The mid-engined coupe uses the same eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission found in the Spider / SF90 Stradale / Roma / .
Ferrari’s 296 GTS debut is not the only one planned for this year. In just a few months, the Purosangue SUV will be unveiled.
