Report: Lexus TX, Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX Arrive To The USA In 2

Three-row crossover twins are allegedly made for the US market.

Lexus dealers long for a three row crossover that is larger than the RX L, but smaller than the body on-frame GX or LX SUVs. It turns out that Lexus and Toyota will both be introducing three row crossovers next year for their respective lineups, the Lexus TX (and the Toyota Grand Highlander).

Automotive News provided the information. They cited unnamed sources who were privy to this matter. Toyota refused to comment on these future products for the publication.

The Toyota Grand Highlander will be the basis of the Lexus TX, according to sources. To accommodate a third row, the latter will be a longer version Toyota Highlander. The Grand Highlander is expected to arrive six months before the Toyota Highlander, which will arrive by mid-2023. Both will be assembled in Toyota’s Indiana facility.

It is not clear if the Toyota Grand Highlander or the Lexus TX will be built on a new underpinning, or if they will use a modified version of the current Highlander platform. It’s unclear when the current-generation Highlander will be available.

We’ve seen both namesplates before. In the last two years, Toyota filed trademarks for both, with the Lexus TX being registered for three versions: the TX350h and TX500h , as well as the TX550h+. In 2021, Toyota filed a trademark on the Grand Highlander name.

The trademark filings and this report are not confirmations of their arrival or their trim levels. The names have not yet been officially announced by the automaker. The sources mention that they could be officially announced by the end of this year.
