It is simple, but it works.
This 1992 Mercedes-Benz T1 camper van has traveled to three continents. It was manufactured in Europe. The first owner was a Japanese citizen. Ottoex now owns the vehicle and has found a buyer in the United States. This video shows the complete route before it is delivered to the customer.
The T1 was the precursor to the Sprinter, a Mercedes-Benz commercial van model. This Mercedes OM602 2.9-liter five cylinder diesel engine is the power source. It is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission.
This camper looks big and heavy from the outside. The vehicle’s Reimo roof extension adds a lot of height. Access to the exterior gives you access to many storage areas and even an outdoor shower. A retractable awning provides shade and allows you to rest during the day.
The steering wheel on a Japanese product is located on the right. The instrument panel is simple. The instrument panel is very simple. There’s no speedometer. However, the driver can see a temperature gauge, fuel level and a clock. An aftermarket radio is available.
The living room is accessed via a large sliding door. First, you will see a dinette that has five seatsbelts. You can also convert this into two rows facing forward. You can also fold the table away and make this the bed.
One neat feature is the one above the occupants. The storage area holds extra pillows to make the bed. This section can slide fore- and aft. This section allows for a significant increase of headroom.
The back of the house has a kitchenette that includes a sink, a two-burner stove and a refrigerator. Cabinets and drawers provide storage space for food preparation tools.
To make it easier to take a shower, the wet bathroom has a fold-away sink. A cassette toilet is also available.
Ottoex points out that these Mercedes T1 campers have never been seen in Japan. We often see RVs made by the country’s automakers Toyota, and Isuzu.
