Luckily, all those involved in the accident, including Sophia Floersch, live to see another day.
The Macau Grand Prix has begun. There are many thrilling races and some unwelcome things that occur because of the sport’s nature. Sophia Floersch, Van Amersfoort Racing’s driver in Formula 3, was involved in a major crash today that sent her Formula 3 race car off the track and onto a fence occupied by photographers and marshals.
Floersch was able to survive the terrible crash, but she has been diagnosed with a spine fracture and will need surgery. The video shows that Floersch’s Van Amersfoort Racing Dallara Mercedes hit another race car and flew off the race track. Although the charred race car crashed onto the fencing, it was unclear if anyone was directly struck.
The accounts of what happened before and following the crash were not visible on the video. The Motosport.com report states that Floersch was able to rear-end Jehan Daruvala, the 15th placer, on a flat-out section of the track. This put her out of control onto TOM’S Dallara–Toyota, Sho Tsuboi. She was able to get over the barrier, and then she got onto an area that is occupied by photographers and marshals who are working in a bunker.
