Ferrari Announces A New V12 Engine for A “Game-Changing Model”

Ferrari Announces A New V12 Engine This V12 engine could be used for the Purosangue SUV, or perhaps another supercar?

There’s good news for those who were worried that Ferrari may have abandoned the V12 engine. The company today announced that it has developed a completely new V12 engine, which will be used in a “game-changing vehicle” this summer. We have an idea of what this game-changer could be.

Ferrari uses “Heart Of A Thoroughbred” in its teaser text. This almost certainly refers to one vehicle, the new Purosangue UH1_. English-speaking people out there will know that the Italian word for “Purosangue”, “thoroughbred” is the same.

Unfortunately, the short 14-second clip doesn’t give any evidence that this engine is for Purosangue. The video features close-ups of the V12 with the prominent “Ferrari” wordmark in bold white letters atop the block. That’s all.

It was not clear what engines Ferrari might offer for the Purosangue. Previous spy video revealed a very quiet prototype. This suggests that a plug-in hybrid V6 from the 296 GTB was under the hood. However, rumors have circulated about a V8. We know that either or both of these engines may still be available, but it is almost certain that there will be an option for a V12 engine.

Ferrari has reiterated that the new “game-changing vehicle” will be unveiled this summer. We also know that Ferrari intends to unveil the Purosangue within the next few months. Ferrari claims that the Purosangue, just like its super-sport cars, will only be made in limited quantities. However, pricing details remain a mystery.

We will learn more about the Purosangue as well as the all-new V12 engine closer the debut date.
