Spoiler alert: It’s a close battle between two completely different machines.
Tesla EVs are now known not only as electric luxury vehicles, but also as drag-race contenders. Even the humble Model 3 can still smoke powerful ICE-run cars.
Can the Model 3, an entry level Tesla, defeat a Lamborghini Urus with more horsepower in a drag race. This matchup is courtesy of the UK carwow.
However, the Tesla Model 3 is not bare. The Model3 Performance model has two electric motors that power each axle, without any gearbox. The video shows that the motors produce 490 horsepower (365kilowatts) as well as 487 pound-feet (466 Newton-meters) of instantaneous power.
On paper, the Lamborghini Urus is a great car. The twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 engine produces 641 horsepower (478 kW) as well as 627 lbft (850 Nm), which is also sent to all four wheel.
The only thing that Tesla was able to do better than the SUV-like supercar in the video was its weight. The Model 3 was 765 pounds lighter than the Urus (347 kilograms) which should offset the Lamborghini’s power advantage.
Their launches were another point of comparison. The Model 3 launched flawlessly almost every time. While the Urus was a bit of a hit and miss, despite having an all-wheel drivetrain, it launched perfectly every time.
The two rivals were almost on the same ground in terms of acceleration. Both can sprint up to 62 miles an hour (100 km per hour) in just 3.3 seconds. It’s an even playing field, despite the huge differences in pricing.
