Honda Civic Type R Recovered at Nurburgring, Just Before June Debut

Do you want to set a new lap record?

The new Civic Type R will be revealed by Honda sometime next month. Honda doesn’t have much time to complete the development of the new Civic Type R, but it is making use of the time that it has to refine the model. The upcoming hot hatch is captured in spy shots at the Nurburgring race track, ahead of its June debut.

These photos show the car whizzing around a corner. Honda keeps the car’s finer styling details hidden under tight camouflage, but the car’s sportiness shines through at the front. Although the car has a more subtle styling than the Civic, it still retains all the hallmarks TypeR. Even with the body covering, you can easily spot the larger wing, central-exit exhaust and sportier face.

The new Type R will be powered by Honda’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. It produces 306 horsepower (228kilowatts in the FK8 Civic US), but Honda may increase that number for the new model. We are keeping our fingers crossed but don’t anticipate a huge jump. Rumours of a hybrid with 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) were floating around, but no evidence has been found to support this. The Type R will only be available with a manual transmission from Honda.

The Type R should get several performance upgrades such as a limited slip differential. The car’s handling and aerodynamics will be improved by the new appearance bits. As Europe enacts increasingly strict emission regulations, there’s a chance that this will be the last ICE-powered Honda in Europe. The entire industry is shifting towards hybrids and fully electric vehicles.

Honda will unveil the global Type R in June. The US version will be revealed in July at the NTT IndyCar Series Event at Mid-Ohio. Expect no significant differences between them. We will soon find out when the Type R will be in production and when it will start arriving at US dealers. It will arrive in the USA as a 2023 model. Honda may introduce it by setting an unprecedented lap record at the Nurburgring Race Track with its hatch.
