Drag Race Nissan GT-R Shows Godzilla’s Evolution Across Generations

The R35 represents a huge leap over its predecessors.

Ah, the Nissan GT-R. We don’t mind that it’s an old machine. Despite its weight, the latest Godzilla coupe is still a beast of a coupe and can still turn heads despite having been a well-known nameplate for decades.

The Nissan GT-R isn’t the same car it was in its heyday. The R35 is a significant leap from its predecessors. This drag race will showcase this feat, thanks to UK’s Carwow. From R32 to R35 Four generations of GT-Rs and Skyline GT-Rs will face off on the asphalt to show how far Godzilla has come.

The R32 was the original Skyline GT-R that used the venerable twin-turbo 2.6-L RB26DETT Inline-six engine. This powerplant has been the heart and soul of Skyline GT-R’s lineup, from R32 to the R34, with minor tweaks each generation.

The Skyline GT-R R32 R33 and R34 each produce 276 horsepower (206kilowatts). This is according to a gentleman’s agreement among Japanese automakers not exceeding those numbers.

They all produce more and their production increases with each generation. As well as increasing in weight, torque figures and weight also increase with each generation. All the samples come with manual gearboxes. The R34 has an additional gear than the other.

The R35, which saw Nissan drop the Skyline name for the GT-R’s GT-R, produces twice the power of the GT-Rs. The Nismo version has a twin-turbo VR38DETT V6 engine of 3.8-liters. It produces 600 horsepower (447 kW) as well as 481 pound-feet (652 Nms) of torque. It is also 353 pounds heavier (160 kg) than the previous model.

This drag race is very close. You might be able to concentrate on the older GT-Rs as you watch the video embedded above. However, the result will not surprise anyone.

The question now is: Will there be a next-generation Nissan GT-R?? At this point, your guesses are just as valid as ours.
