Trans Am Worldwide built the 70/SS and you can buy one. It will however come at a high price.
The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 was a notable muscle car. It’s considered the king of muscle cars, but it was demolished in the 1970s. Trans Am Worldwide, based in Florida, offers a modern version of the classic and doesn’t compromise on power. Trans Am Worldwide offers up to 1,500 horsepower (1.119 kilowatts).
The 70/SS, a reskinned Chevrolet Camaro was unveiled last week. We mean fully reskinned. Trans Am Worldwide has swapped the windshield for an exterior component of the Camaro. This includes a cool cowl-induction hood that is reminiscent the original SS 454. To better reflect the old Chevelle, the doors and fenders have been redesigned with straighter lines. The nose is even pointed in the same fashion as the original.
The Camaro’s greenhouse is largely unchanged when you move inside. New seats with a retro theme will be found, as well as special 70/SS branding on door panels and instrument cluster. Even the carpet has been replaced with a loop carpeting that is more in line with what you would find in 1970. The classic Hurst Shifter, with its cue-ball knob to shift gears, is perhaps the most important touch for the interior.
It’s time to discuss powertrain. Trans Am Worldwide will offer the 70/SS in multiple packages. Yes, the top-tier model promises 1,500 horsepower. The engine’s details are not available but Trans Am Worldwide claims that the LS6/X454 will be the top-of-the-line model with two turbochargers and “1,500 streetable rear wheel horsepower”. These monsters will only be made 25 times.
A 6.4-liter (396 cubes) V8 with 900 HP (671 kW), is also available. The Camaro’s 450 hp (336 kW) LT1 V8 is the starting point of the 70/SS. You can choose between manual or automatic transmissions. Upgraded suspension, wheels and brakes are also available. You can choose from 8 heritage colors and 10 modern exterior shades. Customization is possible.
Trans Am Worldwide states that orders are being taken right now with delivery planned for the fall. Retro is expensive, though, as the 70/SS starts at $150,000.
