The Volkswagen Golf R 20 years edition adds power and other features to the hot hatch to commemorate 20 years since the R32 was launched. This is the first VW to sport the R badge. It will be available in Europe, North America and other markets by mid-2022. Pricing information is not yet available. This model will not be available until 2023, according to VW.

The Golf 20 Years edition boosts the turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter to 328 horsepower (245kilowatts) compared to 315 hp (395 kW) in the regular model. This special Golf is the most powerful ever made by the factory.

The Golf R 20 Years edition offers an VW called Emotion Start option. The hot hatch’s engine revs up to 2,500 rpm upon startup.

R-Performance equipment is standard on this model, instead of being an option on the standard Golf R. R-Performance Torque Vectoring. Additional driving modes include Special and Drift settings.

R logos are placed on the grille and hatchback of the special edition. Customers can order the vehicle in any color they wish, but the mirror caps will be blue. The B-pillar has a “20” badge. This is the image that will be used for the puddle light. Hot hatches are available on 19-inch wheels in a two-tone blue and black color scheme. Buyers can also specify the hot hatch entirely in black.

The Golf R 20 Years edition features sport seats with Nappa leather upholstery, and the blue R logo at the top of the backrest. Carbon fiber trim is also included on the door panels and dashboard.

Since 2002, VW has sold more than 260,000 R models around the world. The model featured a 3.2-liter VR6 engine that produced 240 horsepower (179 kW in the US) and all-wheel drive.
