PrimaSerie Launch Edition will be limited to 60 units.
Maserati’s MC20 coupe has been in production for almost two years. The automaker promised a convertible version at the launch. It’s called MC20 Cielo and is the next generation of the company’s supercar.
Not A New Nettuno
The MC20 Cielo has the same Nettuno V6 as the MC20 coupe. The engine’s 3.0-liter displacement produces 621 horsepower (456 Kilowatts) as well as 538 pound-feet (730 Newton meters) of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed dual clutch gearbox and can reach speeds of more than 198 mph (320 km per hour).
Magic Roof, Open Sky
Maserati offers three versions of the MC20’s carbon-fiber monocoque: one each for the coupe, one per for the convertible and one per for the EV. The carbon fiber layering and distribution of these variants differ. The Maserati monocoque was designed for weight and performance. However, the Cielo monocoque is focused on increasing rigidity. The MC20 Cielo is just 143 pounds (65 kg) lighter than the MC20 coupe.
This extra rigidity is required to compensate for the Cielo retractable roof. It can be opened and closed in 12 seconds. A large chromatic panel of glass is featured on the retractable roof. It can be instantly transformed from transparent to opaque by using its polymer-dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) technology. Maserati claims this panel is the largest in the segment.
PrimaSerie Launch Edition
Maserati will launch a limited-run PrimaSerie Launch Edition. Maserati will produce 60 units at a time, and each unit will be given unique touches like Acquamarina’s exterior paint color. This three-layer paint color is part of Maserati Fuoriserie customization program. It combines pastel grey with iridescent Aquamarine mica.
The PrimaSerie Launch Edition’s interior features ice-colored leather and Alcantara, along with aquamarine contrast stitching at the dash. Maserati uses the same color to make the “PrimaSerie” text on the headrests. The matte-black 20 inch wheels also have the “PrimaSerie” wording. Maserati gives the badges a special finish.
New Roof, Familiar Design
Although the MC20 Cielo looks very similar to the coupe at first, Maserati had several modifications to make to accommodate the retractable roof. The MC20 coupe’s Trident vents are no more. They have been replaced with a matte titanium Trident sticker. Maserati had to relocate its engine air intakes. However, the coupe’s butterfly doors were not removed.
Maserati will also introduce new double-X-styled wheels made of diamond-cut alloy. Maserati will also offer carbon fiber rims, which can be reduced by 66 lbs (30 kilograms).
Many of the same upgrades Maserati gave to the 2023-model year MC20 coupe are also available for the MC20 Cielo. This includes new controls behind the steering wheel and a button to turn on the lights. The MC20 Cielo offers automatic emergency braking and traffic sign recognition. It also has a 360-degree camera.
Maserati has not yet announced the price or when it will be on sale.
