This unofficial rendering is based on the global HRV.
Honda is currently reviving its SUV line-up in America. The company revealed the new HRV and teased the next-generation CRV before a summer debut. They have now confirmed that a Pilot successor will be available later in the year. The design of the plane is still a mystery as only one prototype was seen during testing, and it was wearing extensive camouflage.
The 2023 Pilot that we saw earlier in May was covered in a lot of makeup. However, independent artists were able to imagine what was hidden beneath the thick mask. The rendering below is more like a shot in dark, as it looks after the global HR-V.
It’s likely that the new Pilot will grow in size as it borrows the platform from the Acura MDX luxury SUV, which is now larger than its predecessor. This should result in a longer wheelbase, which will allow for more legroom for those seated in the second and third rows. It would be easier to get in and out from the rearmost seats if they had slightly longer doors.
Honda is electrifying its products more in America. It recently introduced hybrid versions for the Civic, CR-V and Accord. It is unknown if the fourth-generation Pilot will be able to go electric (fied). The less expensive versions will continue to use front-wheel drive, while the more costly ones will have AWD.
We don’t expect any surprises with the traditional powertrain. Honda will likely use the MDX’s V6 engine making 290 horsepower and 267 lbft (362Nm). This is channeled to road via a 10-speed auto transmission. Acura’s new front suspension features a double wishbone design for improved handling and a higher dash-to axle ratio. This gives the car a sportier appearance by moving the cab forward.
Honda is busy making smaller SUVs at the moment so the new Pilot will not be released until 2022.
