Official production will begin in the summer.
Although the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will not be in production until this summer, there are plenty of examples already on the streets. One Z06 was captured on YouTube riding with what appears to have been a manufacturer plate. The driver didn’t hesitate to show off the powerful exhaust note.
The has a 5.5-liter DOHC V8 naturally aspirated with a flat-plane crankshaft. Chevrolet engineers spent 2 years perfecting the exhaust sound to make it unique. This video captures a car that sounds like a spot car, despite all the wind noise.
The engine produces 670 horsepower (523 kilowatts), and 460 pound feet (623 Newton-meters). The Z06 can travel 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) in just 2.6 seconds. It is paired with a seven speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to experience the Z06’s full-throated exhaust note. Chevrolet had to redesign the exhaust system because of EU and Australian emission regulations. Chevrolet was unable to maintain the Z06’s floating quad-center-exist exhaust system due to the extra piping. These Z06s will have corner-exit exhaust pipe, which could cause a slight decrease in horsepower.
A package will include aerodynamic and suspension upgrades for the Z06. The Z06’s stance increases by 3.6 inches to fit the 20-inch front wheels, and 21-inch backs. Chevrolet also included six-piston Brembo front brakes, which hide behind the new wheels.
Customers can choose to have the Z06 equipped with a new front spiller as well as a smaller rear one. However, customers can also opt for the carbon-fiber aero kit that includes a bigger front splitter and massive rear wings. Chevy claims that the Z06 can pull 1.22g on a 300-foot skidpad.
The production of the 2023 Z06 will not begin until this summer and it must reach customers. Although the Z06 is the next step in the new C8, it will not be the last. The automaker already has plans to make a hybrid and fully electric versions. These will not be long wait.
