Ferrari has already launched the teaser campaign to promote its first-ever SUV. The original announcement of the Purosangue, Italian for “thoroughbred”, was made almost four years ago. It will be available in the next weeks or months and go on sale in late 2022. There are still some testing to do, including a prototype that was almost ready for production in Maranello.

The Ferrari among SUVs will inadvertently replace the GTC4Lusso and the FF by riding low to the ground, just like a sports car. The two-door, 2+2 layout of those cars was the norm. The Purosangue will have four seats and be the Prancing Horse’s largest ever car. It has been confirmed by the Italians that their Lamborghini Urus fighter will be equipped with the magnificent V12, most likely without forced induction.

The SUV, which was hunkered down, was captured in the factory without any camouflage earlier this year. We decided to render Purosangue to match Ferrari’s future official images. You can expect some Roma influence at the rear and beefier wheel arches, as well as shorter rear doors and a longer wheelbase. Near the headquarters of the company, the prototype had a terrifying exhaust system that featured large quad tips and flanked a beefy diffuser featuring no less than six vertical fins.

Ferrari put design above practicality when designing the tailgate. It has a large opening and no rear wiper. The roof-mounted spoiler is visible, but not as aggressively as we might have expected. It will be interesting to see if the Purosangue will have rear door handles in their traditional spot or if they’ll sit alongside the C-pillar to enhance the coupe-like silhouette.

Ferraris pledged to resist temptation of chasing volume and keep the Purosangue exclusive as its other sports cars. The SUV will debut later in the year with an all-wheel drive system and air suspension. A hybrid powertrain is likely to be available. In 2023, the first deliveries are planned.
