The third-generation BMW X1 is available in the United States only as xDrive28i, but European customers can also choose an all-electric model. The brand’s first ever all-wheel-drive electric compact vehicle, the iX1, will go on sale in the United States starting October.

Only available in or iX1 trim. The modified front fascia allows the zero-emissions version of the X1 to be distinguished from the combustion-powered versions. The bumper has a modified lower section and blue accents around its kidney grilles. You can see the same blue accents on the sides below the doors and at the back of the rear bumper. However, what lies beneath the skin is quite different. The iX1 is an entirely electric powertrain that eliminates combustion engines. It has two electric motors for each axle. The iX1 is the third generation’s most powerful member of the X1 family. It produces 313 horsepower (230 kilowatts) as well as 364 pound-feet (494 Nms). BMW promises “supreme stability and traction” due to its AWD capability. It can also accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0-100 km per hour) in just 5.7 seconds.

The battery, which is 64.7 kWh in size, is housed within the floor and should provide enough power to cover 256-mile (413 km) or 272 mile (438 km) range on one charge. The battery pack is compatible with BMW’s most efficient charging technology. It also includes a new software, the BMW. This means that DC charging up to 130 kW can be achieved. The battery can be charged in as little as 29 minutes.

Alternately, AC charging can be done with single- or three-phase electricity at up to 22 kW. It is important to remember that all output, performance and range figures, as well as charging figures, are predicated values by BMW based upon the iX1’s current development stage. However, a 12-month free subscription to Europe’s IONITY charging system is confirmed.
