The X-Class comes in the Progressive and Power trims with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine that benefits from common-rail direct injectors. The engine produces 258 horsepower (190kW) and a maximum torque output of 550 Nm (406lb-ft) at 1,400 rpm. The Volkswagen Amarok Facelift with the V6 biturbodiesel’s highest specification produces a lower 224 hp (165 kW) and has the same torque as Merc’s diesel but at 1,500 rpm.

Mercedes claims the new X350d with permanent 4Matic all wheel drive can reach speeds of 62 mph (100 kph), before reaching a top speed of 127 mph (205 kph). To enable a pickup truck-friendly rear-based configuration, the standard seven-speed automatic transmission is configured to channel 60 per cent of the torque to the rear wheels.

This workhorse is equipped with a low-range gear, and can optionally be configured with a rear axle locking differential for increased traction on all surfaces. The 4Matic system features a two-stage transmission case. It also has three drive modes and an available 100% differential lock.
