Air-cooled engine, passengers.
The 993-series Porsche 911 is located in an interesting place when it comes down to the vehicle’s hierarchy. Many would argue that this was the last variant to use an engine with air cooling. Gunther Werks released a very special Speedster version of the German automobile.
This example, which is not surprising, has been extensively modified to provide impressive performance and aesthetics. It’s obvious that you would notice the absence of the roof at first glance. This is in keeping with Speedster’s name. While it makes the vehicle look amazing, it also presents a few engineering challenges.
GW reinforced the area where the coupe’s rear-seat compartment was located to counter the reduced structural rigidity caused by a roof deletion. A new roll cage system and roll hoop system protects the occupants.
The engine is a 4.0-liter flat six engine that Rothsport Racing has rebuilt. It produces approximately 435 horsepower (324 megawatts). This hot rod has more to it than exterior modifications. The 993 Speedster boasts all-new suspension components from JRZ and Eisenlohr Racing uprights that are stiffer and lighter.
The entire package was powerful enough to set an air-cooled lap time record at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Randy Pobst was the driver, guiding the car around the 2.2-mile (3.0-kilometer) race track in just one minute, 30.99 seconds. You have only 25 chances to secure such a machine.
