You can’t get any closer.
Drag racing is always entertaining, but it’s even more fun when the action is happening door-to-door. This is especially true when two iconic supercars are facing off. And friends, it’s even better.
A 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS looks stunning in black and is racing a white 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo. Modifications are possible for both cars, which are both stock. However, 700 horsepower and seven speed paddle-shift transmissions are standard equipment from the factory. The F8 Tributo has 710 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged, 3.9-liter V8. Only the GT2 RS has 700 hp, but it is lighter by a few hundred pounds. Both drive on Michelin street tires and turn at the rear wheels. It’s anyone’s play on paper.
You know what? This is exactly what we get in real-life. The showdown will take place at New Jersey’s Atco Dragway. DragTimes records the action from both cars during a best-of-3 showdown. Each car will run the quarter-mile in 10.25 seconds. The first race sets the scene. The 911 ran the quarter-mile in 10.25 seconds, while the F8 went 135.8 mph. The Ferrari won the race thanks to its quicker reaction time at start line, which was 0.3 seconds. This is how close the race was.
The second race was closer.
Both drivers had nearly identical reactions times, with 0.3 seconds between them. It was door-to-door from there. The 911 GT2 RS was slightly slower at 10.19 mph at 137.3 mph compared to 10.18 @ 137.8 mph for the F8. The Ferrari didn’t win the race however. This one requires us to go to 100ths seconds. The Porsche driver’s 0.31 response time was faster than the Ferrari’s 0.36. The 911 was the first to cross the finish line in just 0.37 seconds. This could have been the closest finish to Motor1.com.
There is a third race between cars but we don’t know how to beat race number 2. In terms of reaction time and elapsed time, it wasn’t as close. It’s still a strong pass for each car, and who wouldn’t love to hear the sound of a Porsche flat-six or a Ferrari V8? Enjoy the fight, then relax and take a deep breath.
