Next week, the new luxury SUV will be on display in Geneva.
Citroen’s luxury brand DS finally revealed its new 7 Crossback after a brief teasing campaign. This is the latest model to join DS’s lineup, and arguably its most advanced. This SUV is a combination of technological advances and Parisian know-how to make it a worthy vehicle.
The front fascia is sculpted and paired with active LED “Vision”, headlights. A pair of 3D taillights define the rear. Two 12-inch screens accent the interior. They share navigation information with passengers and manage MirrorScreen and DS Connect functions.
A variety of engines will provide power, but the most notable is a plug-in hybrid that produces 300 horsepower (223 Kilowatts). It pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Two electric motors add 100 horses to the gasoline engine’s 200 horsepower (149kilowatts). Under the second row of seats is a 13 kilowatt-hour lithiumion battery that produces 90 kW.
This unique powertrain can be used in three driving modes: 100% electric, mixed, and combined. The DS 7 can travel 37 miles (59 km) in pure electric mode. In hybrid mode, additional energy will be generated via throttle and braking. Standard mode charges in four and a quarter hours using a charger of 6.6-kW. Fast mode charges it in two and a third hours.
You can also choose from a gasoline engine with 225 horsepower (167-kW), or a diesel engine with 180 horsepower (134-kW), and many other options. All diesel and gas options can be paired with either an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission.
The DS 7 Crossback is a new SUV that will be semi-autonomous. It will have night vision, DS Connected Pilot and active scan suspension. This system monitors road conditions (and off-road) in a manner similar to the Range Rover Sport.
“Our customers will love the unique combination of technology and design offered by DS Automobiles. The latest technology on the DS 7 Crossback gives it a technological edge. Eric Apode (DS VP of Products and Business Development) said that new driving aids will further improve safety and driving comfort. This opens the door to the autonomous car.
The company will also debut the standard DS 7 Crossback and introduce a special “La Premiere” edition to celebrate the new SUV’s launch. The Premiere edition will feature a variety of unique design cues such as exclusive paint colors like Cumulus Gray, Pearl White, and Perla Nera Black and Nappa leather upholstery.
DS has not yet revealed the price of its new SUV when it goes on sale later this year. The DS 7 Crossback will go on display at the Geneva Motor Show next Wednesday. It will be manufactured at Citroen’s Mulhouse plant in France.
