Since its debut in 2018, the Super SUV has been a cash cow.
On July 20, Lamborghini announced that the Urus had reached a significant production milestone. The 15,000 th example was already on the production line at Sant’Agata Bolognese. Fast forward almost 11 months and the Super SUV #20,000 is ready to be delivered. It’s painted in Viola Mithras, has a panoramic roof, and features black brake calipers. The vehicle will be delivered to Azerbaijan.
Lamborghini took just four years to produce 20,000 SUVs. This made the Urus the company’s most popular model in the shortest amount of time. The Italian marque was able to more than double its production and hire more than 500 people to increase the model’s production in order to meet huge demand. The factory’s area doubled, from 80,000 to 160,000 sq. meters.
Lamborghini shared some information about buyers who spec the Urus using the Ad Personam customization tool. Viola Pasifae (Pearl), Blu Cepheus (Grigio Telesto), Nero Noctis Matt Matt (Graphite) and Viola Pasifae (Blu Cepheus) are the five most popular fancy colours. According to the company, customers have driven their SUVs for a total of 360 million km, which is exactly 223,693,629 miles.
The updated Urus could soon get the suffix. It may also have more power. The twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 is capable of 650 horsepower (478 kW) or 850 Nm (625lb-ft) respectively. Pebble Beach will host the unveiling.
An all electric Urus will eventually hit the streets. However, it is unlikely that this will happen before the end of the decade, when the second-generation model should arrive. A plug-in hybrid is something that has been discussed for some time. With parent company VW Group using this technology in various Audi and Porsche products, it’s possible to have a gasoline-electric Urus.
Although it may not be the LM002 successor that many had hoped, the Urus still pays the bills and allows Lamborghini the opportunity to work on the Huracan or Aventador replacements.
