Next-Gen Mercedes E-Class Is In Waiting For A Red Light

Mercedes is taking its time in developing the next E-Class.

We don’t expect the Mercedes-Benz E-Class to release its next-generation model anytime soon, considering that the updated version was introduced in 2021. Stuttgart doesn’t seem to care much about the midsize sedan, however. Another E-Class prototype was spotted waiting at a red light in Germany several times previously.

The prototype Mercedes E-Class Mercedes we see on this video is very similar to the one that we saw at Nurburgring in April. The German marque has kept the details of the new changes to the sedan largely hidden.

This spy video gives you a close-up look at the details of the forthcoming sedan. The LED daytime running light above doubles as turn signals. It appears that the headlights wrap around corners, despite being concealed under wraps. For now, the grille and front badge have been hidden, but we can expect air inlets to be found on the lower bumper. This is also hidden under camouflage. We don’t expect the black alloys to be on the production model.

Only a few lines of character are visible through the wraps on the sides. However, the proportions are clear. There is a small rear deck and the tailpipes aren’t visible. The majority of the taillight elements are kept from prying eyes.

Although spy photos and videos have not been made of the interior of the next E-Class, we can expect the S-Class’s niceties to trickle down to this midsize model. We will soon see more screens and driver-assist functions.

Powertrain details are still scarce. Although a plug in hybrid was spotted prior to, mild-hybrid turbocharged gasoline and diesel versions of the engine are also possible. AMG models with high-end specifications will likely receive turbocharged, electrically-assist four-pot engines.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be available towards the end 2023, or early 2024.
